You can help rid Los Angeles of smog, water pollution and other environmental problems; reduce traffic; improve our sense of community; help restore our rivers and estuaries; and make L.A. a more beautiful and liveable metropolis. Start by getting to know some of the following organizations.

Arroyo Seco Foundation

Ballona Creek Renaissance

A Culver City-based  non-profit organization dedicated to facilitating the long-term collaborative renewal of Ballona Creek and its watershed.

The California Coastal Conservancy

California Native Plant Society

The California Native Plant Society (CNPS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the understanding and appreciation of California's native plants and how to conserve them and their natural habitats through education, science, advocacy, horticulture and land stewardship.

The Expo Line

An all-volunteer group of citizens joined together to support an alternative to L.A.'s world-record traffic: a fast, comfortable, safe, quiet, exhaust-free, high-capacity light rail transit line — with landscaping and bike path — from downtown Los Angeles to Santa Monica.

Friends Of The Los Angeles River

A non-profit organization founded in 1986 to protect and restore the natural and historic heritage of the Los Angeles River and its riparian habitat through inclusive planning, education and wise stewardship.

Heal The Bay

Heal the Bay is a nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to making Southern California coastal waters and watersheds, including Santa Monica Bay, safe, healthy and clean. We use research, education, community action and advocacy to pursue our mission.

Los Angeles And San Gabriel
Rivers Watershed Council

LASGRWC is a non-profit organization of community groups, government agencies, business and academia working cooperatively to solve problems in the watershed. Its mission is: to facilitate an inclusive consensus process to preserve, restore, and enhance the economic, social, and ecological health of the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Rivers Watershed through education, research, and planning.

North East Trees

"Although we have made some changes to our look, in many respects, we are the same organization that was founded by educator, landscape architect, and community activist, Scott Wilson, nearly 20 years ago.  He started with a motto, “More Trees Are Better”.  Over 30,000 planted trees later, we remain deeply committed to this goal.  However, we have learned how important it is to develop neighborhood and community capacity to nurture or steward newly created, as well as existing, environmental improvements."--from their website

The River Project

The River Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to planning for natural resource protection, conservation and enhancement in Los Angeles County. Our mission is to encourage responsible management of our watershed lands and revitalization of our rivers for the social, economic and environmental benefit of our communities. Through outreach, advocacy, scientific research and hands-on educational programs, we provide communities with the tools to reclaim their riverfront lands.

San Gabriel Mountains Regional Convervancy

A nonprofit public benefit corporation. SGMRC is devoted to watershed management and a great variety of other projects in the San Gabriel River Watershed of eastern Los Angeles County. Included in the region are the San Gabriel Mountains, River, Valley and related areas.

Sierra Club Angeles Chapter
